Follow ZuluTrade Traders: Difference between Demo vs. Live Account at ZuluTrade

When selecting a signal provider, aka a trader, take notice of the type of account they are using. Are they trading live or sending signals from a demo account? Considering that demo accounts have no balance limit attached, the expert trader could open as many trades as they’d like. As a result, the signals could be misleading to someone copying the strategy, like you.

For example, a trader may have up to 50 open positions of BUY USD/GBP with a balance of $100,000 or more. Meanwhile, you are trading with real funds from a limited account balance. As a result, your account probably doesn’t have the arsenal to copy all of the orders of a trader who is relying on a demo account.

The pro trader might also be using sophisticated tools. EA, for instance, is add-on software that is used with a MetaTrader currency trading platform and that automatically generates trading signals on the forex trader’s behalf. Your account, meanwhile, may be facing a margin call. Once the expert trader opens new positions, they can move in and out of positions positive while leaving you holding the bag.

The other option is a trader who provides signals from a live account. These traders use “real money” for orders in the market. It is a good rule of thumb to follow live traders using actual funds. A trader who is placing orders with their own money tends to be more calculated and cautious and is less likely to take on excessive risk.

ZuluTrade helps you to determine whether a signal provider is using a live or demo account by displaying an icon. Look for an area marked with a red rectangle. A green surrounding area reflects a live account and blue means the trader is in demo mode.

Carefully check your signal providers, read their strategies, and take the time to understand them. Keep in mind that most traders outline their strategies as a sales pitch, so you should never use someone’s declared strategies as a deciding factor for following them. Instead, try to see if the trader actually implements the strategies they brag about. Fortunately, ZuluTrade offers the entire history of all signal providers to help you make an informed decision.

To view the selection of signal providers, click the trader’s icon on the menu. To access more details of a trader’s performance, select “advanced” and you will gain access to more of the statistics surrounding this trader’s performance.

A filter section allows you to narrow down your search by picking and choosing the most important criteria to you.

You can select a trader that best fits your risk/return profile. Traders with the least drawdown demonstrate less risk. Traders who generate the highest returns might use a higher risk level. There are many options available that can be tailored to your preferences.

Below are some tips for selecting a signal provider:

  • Look for a trader with a proven and profitable track record, ideally greater than 12 months.
  • Look for a trader with a low historical drawdown, preferably less than 20%.
  • Look for a trader boasting have high average pips per trade gains. Otherwise, you lose too much on slippage.
  • Determine if the signal provider trades manually or uses EA, the latter of which is an automated system.
  • Look for a trader who uses a short-term strategy, manages stop levels closely, and opens a limited amount of trades, all of which reduces drawdown.
  • Determine if the signal provider is trading live, thereby using real money, or if they are in demo mode.
  • Look for a trader boasting a clear description of their strategy and whose trades actually match the strategy.
  • Look for a trader who is nimble and engaged who will adjust or intercept their EA when the market requires.

Let’s explore some of the traders on ZuluTrade whose strategies are ripe for copying in your already-active demo account. Keep in mind that these traders have been included for illustrative purposes only and their inclusion in this analysis is neither an endorsement nor a piece of investment advice.

Follow MixzFXTrader on ZuluTrade

MixzFXTrader Trader on ZuluTrade

  • Pros

This Trader has been active on ZuluTrade for 45 weeks, as of the time of publication. For the entire period, they have generated a total profit of more than 7,981.4 pips. This trader is using a live account and therefore is placing orders with their own funds. MixzFXTrader boasts a huge follower base of 3,250 investors.

  • Cons

The average pip gain for this trader stands at 7.1, which is healthy. A high slippage of 2.3, however, suggests the profits are quickly swallowed.

Although the trader’s historical drawdown is modest at 1,200 (15%), their daily drawdown is alarmingly high.

Conclusion

MixzFXTrader seems to be taking a high-risk, high-return approach. They also use EA, which is ideal when markets are soaring but can be very risky when the market is consolidating. Short- term investors seeking a quick profit run the risk of having their funds erased. Long-term investors, meanwhile, could benefit from following this trader.

Follow GreenValley on ZuluTrade

ZuluTrade GreenValley

  • Pros

GreenValley has been trading with ZuluTrade for more than a year at 58 weeks. Over this period, they have generated a total profit of 16,761 pips. Average pips per trade of 20.3 indicate that this trader is performing pretty well. GreenValley has amassed more than 2,000 foinvestors, which strengthens the trader’s credibility. This signal trader boasts 781 winning trades or a whopping 97%.

  • Cons

GreenValley uses a demo account, which means they don’t use their own funds to buy and sell. Daily and historical drawdowns are very high, the latter of which hovers at 2970.5 pips, or 19% This signal provider adopts a manual approach to trading and may at times miss out on profits due to a failure to close trades.

Conclusion

GreenValley’s huge following of 1,715 investors is a reflection of using a demo account with no balance limit and no personal funds at risk. The trader also has a high historical drawdown at 2970.5 pips (19%) and a high daily drawdown, suggesting that an investor’s funds may be at risk while the trader focuses solely on commissions.

On the surface, GreenValley’s performance appears superb in terms of profitability, which may convince investors that the strategy is good. A deeper look at the drawdown levels, however, shows that investors should instead be cautious, especially when you consider that GreenValley is using a demo account.

Follow ThePipsMasterUK on ZuluTrade

ZuluTrade ThePipMasterUK

  • Pros

ThePipsMasterUK is using a real account, which means they are trading with real money. This trader boasts a 99% success rate at 692 winning trades, which reflects a high-performance trader.

ThePipsMasterUK has completed 702 trades with ZuluTrade over nearly a year or 48 weeks and, therefore, can be considered reliable. This trader has amassed a huge following at 6,112 investors across approximately $7.9 million in portfolio funds.

  • Cons

Average profits are low at 6.2 pips. Factor in slippage of 2.47 pips from partner brokers and profitability shrinks to 3.73 pips. Historical drawdown is phenomenally high at 29%.

ThePipsMasterUK uses automated trading software EA; if you don’t use the same trading tool, you will struggle to match this signal provider on a trade-for-trade basis. As a result, you may miss out on profits. Worse, EA can be risky when drawdown is not well managed.

Conclusion

Any portfolio boasting smooth monthly gains over an extended period of time using a maximum drawdown of 30% warrants a red flag. Considering this trader’s 29% drawdown, followers are taking on a huge risk. At the end of the day, what really matters is your investment strategy. Are you a long-term or short-term investor? This trader’s history shows good performance, but before following them an investor should first weigh the risk-return tradeoff.

Follow MaxfxTrader325 on ZuluTrade

ZuluTrade Maxfxtrader325

  • Pros

MaxfxTrader325 has been for more than a year and a half with Zulu Trade. As a result, you can consider this trader reliable. The average pip per trade is favourable at 7.4, and winning trades are at 95%.

  • Cons

MaxfxTrader325 uses a demo account to send signals and therefore is not trading with their own funds. The maximum historical drawdown is quite high at 22%, but that alone doesn’t say much. A closer look at this trader’s daily drawdown, however, indicates high risk. Daily drawdown vis-a-vis profitability shows that the risk-return tradeoff for this trader is paying off.

Conclusion

If you are a low-risk, short-term investor, following this trader is not for you. High profitability requires an asterisk considering this trader uses a demo account and is not risking their own funds.

Also, the daily drawdown means that this trader might be more concerned with earning commissions than actually generating profits. After all, there is nothing to lose! As an investor, be aware that this trader’s high daily drawdowns suggest that your investment could easily be wiped out.
